November 29th, 2007 Posted in Glasgow, Scotland

There’s always plenty of culture and fun to be found in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city. During the month of September, Glasgow has two major happenings. One is the four day long Merchant City Festival, and the second is Open Doors Day, which actually falls on a series of days.

Merchant City Festival: This years’ festival was held from 20th to the 23rd of September, and 2008’s dates are the 25th through the 28th of September. The festival always begins on a Thursday and ends on a Sunday.

The festival is a major festival in the Merchant City area of the city. It brings in more than 40,000 visitors and hosts the best of Scotland and some of the best of Europe’s music, dance, theatre, visual arts, fashion, film, comedic and food scenes. Many of the events that are held during the festival are free of charge.

Open Doors Day
: Originating in Glasgow, this is Scotland’s largest free architectural event. This event provides free access to buildings which are not normally open to the public. Held each weekend of September, different buildings open their doors to everyone to explore, learn and appreciate the architectural history of Glasgow. This event is now held around the world at different times throughout the year.
